Audio equiptment had started to become advanced in the 80s. In 1982, Sony (a japanese comapny), had released the first compact disk (CD) players. CD players were expensive, and bacame a kind of label. Anyone who had a CD player shown that the owner was quite wealthy.

The Sony Walkman was introduced in 1978, but during the 80s, cheap affordable copies were made. The headphones that came with the set allowed teens to develop private tastes in music. The Walkman was ideal for the fitness craze that had developed durinng the 80s. People could wear them when they were jogging or walking. They also helped the sales on cassettes increase.

Cable TV had been invented in the 80s. A TV programme was delivered to people who had subscribed for it. This system was a huge success in America. Seperate channels had been set up for specific interests: music channels, news, sports, ect. In 1985 almost half of all homes in the US had cable TV. In Britain (and some other countries) cable TV hadnt really developed. People were buying video recorders instead.
